LGBTQ Community Focus of Art Exhibition
(South Bend, Indiana) Tricia Bayman, a
local artist, will have a one-person exhibition
which will focus on social issues,
particularly those of concern to the
LGBTQ community.
The exhibition, titled “Parallel Truths
and Intersections,” expresses the artist’s
experience of being a lesbian in a heterosexist
culture, though a number of other
points of view are included, if sometimes
obliquely. There is a piece, for instance,
that includes a letter received by the artist
in which the writer states that he wants to
murder her because she is not a heterosexual.
The opening reception for the artist is
Sunday, October 30, from 7 to 9PM at
Studio Arts Center, 807 Lincolnway West
(across from the Colfax Cultural Center),
in South Bend. The exhibit runs through
November 30. For more information, or to
make an appointment to see the exhibit
outside of gallery hours, please call (574)
288-0160.
Tricia Bayman moved to South Bend
in late 2003 from the New York Metro
area, where she lived for many years after
having lived in Europe and several of the
United States. She has work in private
collections on both coasts.

Looks like we might also have a hip-hop

the band switch.

Expressive Hearts
On Saturday, December 3, The
Church Within (5226 W. 79th St., Indianapolis)
will present Expressive Hearts, a
workshop designed to give members of the
GLBT community and their allies an opportunity
to express their personal stories
through the arts. Rev. Yvonne Brandenburg
has gathered a collective of expressive
artists and healers all striving to enhance
our daily lives with drama, movement
and art. The day-long event will give participants
an opportunity to explore their own
stories through movement, drama and art.
Art therapist Kristina M. Gmutza and
Mindful Movements instructor Nicholas
Martin Kearney, along with local actor
and playwright Jeffrey Barnes, will lead
participants through a series of workshop
sessions designed to explore the individual
experiences of the participants. This first
workshop in the Expressive Hearts series
welcomes individuals from the GLBT
community, their families and friends regardless
of faith background.
In addition to interactive workshop
sessions, the day’s activities will include a
performance of Barnes’ one-man play
Remember Who Made You. Recently performed
at The Indianapolis Theatre Fringe
Festival, this play is a series of monologues
taking a look at the GLBT experience
from several viewpoints.
This workshop will run from 9:45AM
-5PM, with lunch provided, and is ASLinterpreted.
Cost is $15 if pre-registered
and $20 at the door. To register or to receive
further information, please contact
